Growing Cocoa Beans In Minecraft
1. Place Down The Jungle Wood Blocks
To start growing cocoa beans, we need to place our jungle logs. You can place as many as you want. In our example we are going to place 16 blocks (8 long by 2 high).
2. Plant Your Cocoa Beans
Then select your cocoa beans on your Hotbar and plant them on the side of the jungle logs. You can plant your beans using the following controls on your game controller:
- Java Edition (PC/Mac), Windows 10 Edition, Education Edition – Right click on the block.
- Pocket Edition (PE): Tap the block.
- Xbox 360, Xbox One: Press the LT button.
- PS3, PS4: Press the L2 button.
- Wii U, Nintendo Switch: Press the ZL button.
After you’ve planted the cocoa beans, you’ll see the green cocoa shells on the side of the jungle logs.
3. Fertilize The Cocoa Pods
The cocoa bean pods will germinate slowly over time. They go through 3 growth stages (the first stage is the pod small and green, the second stage is larger and tan in color, the third stage is the pod even larger and orange brown in color). However, we can speed up their growth by fertilizing the pods with bone meal.
So select bone meal on your Quick Access Bar and use the following in-game controls to fertilize your pods:
- Java Edition (PC/Mac), Windows 10 Edition, Education Edition : Right click on the plant.
- Pocket Edition (PE): Tap the plant.
- Xbox 360, Xbox One: Press the LT button.
- PS3, PS4: Press the L2 button.
- Wii U, Nintendo Switch: Press the ZL button.
If you use the bone meal, you will notice that the pods germinate and change from green to orange/brown. Once your cocoa bean farm is fully developed, we can harvest them.
4. Harvest The Cocoa Beans
Finally, we want to bring in the harvest. To do this, simply break the capsules using the following controls on your game controller:
- Java Edition (PC/Mac), Windows 10 Edition, Education Edition – Left click on the plant.
- Pocket Edition (PE) – Touch and hold the plant.
- Xbox 360, Xbox One: Press the RT button.
- PS3, PS4: Press the R2 button.
- Wii U, Nintendo Switch: Press the ZR button.
After breaking the pod, you will see 3 cocoa beans. Make sure to collect the cocoa beans before they disappear.
