Minecraft chests are, simply put, a block of items. You can remove items from your inventory and keep them in your chest. If you want to reuse those items, you can move them from your chest to your inventory.

Steps To Craft A Chest

Step 1. Open Your Crafting Menu

First, let’s open your artboard in Minecraft. You should see the same grid as in the image below.

Step 2. Add The Wood Planks To The Menu

On the artboard, add the 8 wooden planks to the grid. You can use any type of wood plank, including spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, oak, or dark oak planks.

You need to add the items to the grid exactly as shown in the image below. In this example we will use oak planks. Place 3 wooden planks in the first row, 2 wooden planks in the second row (leave the middle box empty) and 3 wooden planks in the third row. This is the recipe for the Minecraft chest.

Now that you have added the items to the grid as described above, you will notice that a chest appears in the box on the right.

Step 3. Move The Chest To Your Inventory

After you create the chest, you need to drag it to your inventory to use it.

This is how a box is created! Minecraft chests are blocks used for storage. You can remove items from your inventory and keep them in your chest. If you want to reuse those items, you can move the item from your chest to your inventory.

Chests can also be used as a crafting ingredient to create a Hopper, Chest Mine Cart, Shulker Box, and Trapped Chest.

If you have two chests, you can also have a large chest!

How To Make A Large Chest

A large chest, sometimes referred to as a double chest, is basically two small chests combined.

You can create a large chest by placing down a small chest adjacent to another small chest. The two chests will join to make the large chest.

The large chest has 54 inventory slots, whereas the small chest has half that at 27 inventory slots.

Minecraft Chest Command

You can also use a Give Command to make chests in Minecraft. The chest command is available in the following game editions:

Can you craft Ender chests?

You can craft ender chests using 1 eye of ender and 8 obsidian. In your crafting table, place down 3 obsidian in the 1st row. In the 2nd row place down 1 obsidian in the 1st box, 1 eye of ender in the 2nd box, and 1 obsidian in the 3rd box. Then place down 3 obsidian in the 3rd row. That is the Ender chest recipe.

How can I make my chest big?

You can make your chest big by placing down a chest next to another chest. This will combine the two chests into a large chest.

Are chests spawnable?

No, chests can not be spawned. They can be crafted and are naturally generated in certain areas of the game.

What is the difference between a chest and an ender chest?

A chest simply stores the players items in that particular chest. With an Ender chest, the items in the chest can be teleported between chests. So, you can access all of your items from different Ender chests.
