Items Needed To Create A Piston
- 4 Cobblestones
- 3 Wood planks (any type)
- 1 Iron ingot
- 1 Redstone
Steps To Make A Piston
1. Open Your Crafting Menu
First, let’s open your creation menu in Minecraft. You should see the same grid as in the image below.
2. Add Items To The Menu
In the craft menu, add the 4 cobblestones, 3 wooden planks, 1 iron bar and 1 red stone to the grid.
You need to add the cobblestones, wooden planks, iron bar and redstone to the grid exactly as shown in the picture below. You can use any type of plank, including oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, or dark oak.
In the 1st row, lay out 3 wooden planks that fill the entire row. In the second row, place 1 paving stone in the first bin, 1 iron bar in the second bin and 1 paving stone in the third bin. In the bottom row, place 1 cobblestone in the first space, 1 red stone in the second space and 1 cobblestone in the third space. This is the Minecraft piston recipe.
Now that you’ve added the items to the grid as described above, you’ll see a piston in the box on the right.
3. Move The Piston To Your Inventory
Just drag the piston to your inventory so you can use it.
That is! You now have a plunger. A Minecraft piston is a mechanism block that can be used to push moving blocks and players when activated with Redstone. Pistons can also be used to obtain a dragon egg.
You can also make sticky pistons, which act like normal pistons, but also retract the block. Watch our video on how to make sticky pistons!

FAQ’s
1.Where is sticky piston in Minecraft?
Sticky pistons can push and pull rails. They naturally spawn in Jungle Temples.
2. How do you make a piston in Minecraft survival?
To make a piston, place 3 wood planks, 4 cobblestones, 1 iron ingot, and 1 redstone in the 3×3 crafting grid. When crafting with wood planks, you can use any kind of wood planks, such as oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, dark oak, crimson, or warped plank.
3. Can you piston bedrock?
Place a piston down just below topmost Bedrock layer so that it is pointing upwards. Place a rail on top of it, place a minecart on the rail and destroy the rail. Extend the piston so that it crushes the minecart slightly into the Bedrock.
4. What is a piston used for in Minecraft?
A piston is a block capable of pushing blocks, players, and mobs when given a redstone pulse. A sticky piston has the same function as a piston but can also pull the block on its face back when it retracts, unlike the regular piston, which leaves the pushed block in place.
5. How do you activate pistons in Minecraft?
Placing a redstone block under or beside the piston will leave it activated permanently. A button and observer will give a brief charge that is enough to trigger the piston, but it will return to its normal position shortly thereafter. A lever will activate the piston until the former is switched again.
6. What is the hardest block in Minecraft that can be moved by a piston?
The strongest block available to you is bedrock and I know alot of people are saying that I should have started with bedrock and ended with bedrock but this is my personal answer.
7. How do you make piston headless?
First, place a sticky piston adjacent to the block you want to break, with the head end facing it. Next, place any movable block on the other side of said block. Finally, unpower the piston. The block on the other side replaces the target block and the headless piston gets its head back, as normal.
8. Can a piston move a beacon?
Pistons (including Slime Blocks attached to Pistons) cannot move all types of Blocks. For example: Obsidian, Bedrock, Beacons, End Portal Frames, Ender Chests, Enchantment Tables and powered Pistons.
9. How do you destroy cobblestones with Pistons?
One way to do this wold be to have an observer block facing down at the cobblestone which triggers a piston to push the cobblestone when it appears, you have pistons further down that push these lines of cobblestone into a big stockpile, there you can mine it or blow it up.
